To Spirit
When I talk about Spirit, I’m encompassing so many things under one umbrella.
I’m referencing the energetic life force that connects and guides all things. I’m referencing God or the higher power that dictates all things. I’m referencing the independent spirits and life paths that exist within all of us.
Spirit is simplistically complicated. It simply is, but when you take a step back and look at the depth to which we each interact with spirit daily, and it interacts with us, it’s awe-inspiring.
Spirit is the string that connects us throughout our lives and ties many souls together. It’s the perfect timing when a parking spot opens moments before you need one, or you miss your train and meet your soulmate on the next one.
It’s the seeming mistakes and errors that make way into something grandiose and beautiful. It’s a connectedness that we can never truly see the size or impact of but can experience with all our senses.
We feel spirit in the way we love or cry through the pain we feel for ourselves or others. We feel it across our skin when the earth shakes beneath our feet, or lightning strikes from up above.
We can watch it in the way a tree knows when to grow and bloom, and when it needs to rest, or in the way waves crash upon the shore.
We hear it in the way friends laugh at a bar on a Saturday, or the wind whispers across the trees as birds chirp through the sunrise.
We simply know it; in the way we know when it’s time to turn back, to move, or to make a different decision.
It is us. It is our guidance, our protection. Sometimes, it’s our pain.
We don’t always understand why certain things happen or get the answers to our suffering. We can’t always see the big picture and how we are all connected as we hurtle on this giant rock through space.
That’s the point. We’re not supposed to always understand. Sometimes we’re asked to just experience. Experience the emotions we’ve been gifted, the highs and the lows.
Experience the love of friendship, or companionship, or of passion.
Experience the pain of loss and the acknowledgment that you had something so wonderful to lose.
Experience the magic of synchronicities and life’s perfect timings.
Experience the world in its entirety as it unfolds.
We get one short life here on this earth. Like a painting that starts with a set structure and careful intention and ends with wild strokes and abstract images, there’s still beauty in its creation.
It may not be the beauty we had in mind, but it’s beautiful, nonetheless.
So don’t limit your thoughts of Spirit to a church on a Sunday, or at the bedside of a sicked loved on a Tuesday. It is always around us and within us, waiting to be acknowledged and embraced. It is all of us and this earth in its entirety.
As you make your way through life this week, take a moment to acknowledge the ways Spirit shows up in your day to day.
Maybe it shows up in your best friend as she says the reassuring words you desperately need to hear. Maybe it shows up in your boss, unexpectedly firing you from that job you hated but couldn’t let go of, and officially setting you free. Maybe it shows up in you, finally listening to your body and finally taking that rest day.
Spirit is talking to you every moment of every day; you just have to remember to listen.
You got this.
